The Padel Insider

HEAD Sport GmbH is headquartered in Kennelbach, Austria, and has manufactured tennis equipment since 1970. The company was founded in 1950 by Howard Head, an American aeronautical engineer, and built its reputation making the first aluminum tennis frames. The Arthur Ashe Competition racket, used to win Wimbledon in 1975, is one example of that era. HEAD entered padel over 15 years ago, drawing on the same frame engineering and materials knowledge that underpins its tennis line.

HEAD's current padel lineup splits into four families: Speed, Extreme, Radical, and Coello. Speed is a teardrop-shaped all-round family for tactical players who alternate attack and defense. Extreme is a diamond-shaped power family aimed at aggressive finishers. Radical is a teardrop-shaped control family for players who prioritize precision and placement. Coello is a diamond-shaped signature line developed with world number one Arturo Coello, with a high balance point optimized for smashes and net play. Each family runs three main tiers: Pro (stiffest, most demanding), Motion (lighter and faster to swing), and Team (softer and more forgiving).

Face construction scales from Fiberglass in Team models through Carbon Hybrid HS in mid-tier Coello models to UD Carbon HS in upper Extreme and Speed models and Double Carbon HS in the Radical Pro and Motion. Core foam divides into Power Foam (used across Coello, Extreme, and Speed for explosive output) and Control Foam (used across all Radical models for dwell time and feel). Frame technologies include Graphene Inside for structural reinforcement and energy transfer, Auxetic 2.0 in the yoke and grip bar for adaptive response to impact force, Smart Bridge for per-model yoke tuning, and Damp Plus for vibration isolation between face and grip on the Speed series. Coello, Extreme, and Speed upper-tier models add Extreme Spin, a 3D embossed surface texture that increases ball grip for spin shots.

The HEAD Padel Racket Lineup, Decoded

HEAD sells four padel families in the shapes you actually see on the wall (Radical, Extreme, Speed, Coello) and stacks up to seven variant tiers inside each one. It looks like a memorization test. It is a two-axis grid. This guide sorts family by play style and tier by how demanding the frame is, so you can name your racket in two sentences before you ever hit with it.

Technologies

Carbon Face

12K Carbon Face

12,000-filament carbon weave used on the Extreme Pro and Speed Pro. Adds stiffness and explosive power on overhead contact compared to fiberglass or lower-K carbon options.

UD Carbon HS

Unidirectional high-strength carbon layup used on select models for maximum rigidity and direct power transfer without sacrificing frame stability.

Core Foam

Power Foam

Fast-return EVA-based foam used across most of the lineup. Tuned softer on control builds and firmer on attacking ones; the common thread across Speed, Extreme, and Radical ranges.

Surface

Extreme Spin

Rough surface treatment applied to the face that increases friction on contact, adding grip for topspin and slice on attacking and net shots.

Frame

Auxetic 2.0

Auxetic geometry placed at the bridge and a central bar inside the grip. On impact the structure expands laterally, transmitting energy from face to hand with fewer losses and widening the effective sweet spot.
